Coliform Bacteria, Nitrate, Arsenic (Oregon Home Sale Requirements)

  • This is the most basic type of testing for drinking water. The presence of Coliform bacteria indicates surface waters (and everything that comes with surface water flow) can be entering the well. Certain levels of nitrates can be deadly to babies under 6 months of age.
  • This package covers the testing required by the State of Oregon for properties involving a well. All wells on the property must be tested.
  • Sterile test containers must be obtained from Waterlab Corp.
  • There should not be any disinfectant, such as chlorine, in the water sample unless the water system is constantly chlorinated (or disinfected).
  • If the well has been disinfected, the water must be used for 7 days before the well can be sampled.
